when it all gets too much for you!!!

Just had to share one more wedding photo. This is my precious grandaughter Madi, outside the church before the bride arrived. She decided it was just all too much and needed a bit of R& R before walking up the Isle, in front of Aunt Jade...Mummy was not impressed at all..
I don't know, i often feel like doing the very same thing, don't you ?

This is my very favourite quote, "I'm not afraid of storms, for I am learning to sail my own ship", Louisa May Alcott..... I just love this, what is your favourite quote???

new buffet

Well its been a long time between posts. The good news is i have a brand new car, provided by the insurance co., thankyou very much!! The wedding photos are beautiful, my Jade looked abosolutely stunning, and her sister skye the bridesmaid, just as beautiful, in a different way, and of course my grandaughter Madison was the sweetest thing, but it was all too much for her and mummy ended up carrying her down the isle, but she recovered quickly for the reception!!
Now to the new Buffet, well as i am new to blogging i very foolishly didn't take a before photo, let me just say it was covered in thick pale green oil based paint, which took me weeks to sand off. And this is for Diann, this is her lovely Etsy shop,
trimsandtrappings and this is her highly entertaining blog http://igetthewindow.blogspot.com/, she has the most divine fabrics and sooo reasonably priced, when i purchased my fabric she wanted to see what i did with it, so here is a start, i have more ideas up my sleeve, just waiting for Uni to finish, then i will be right on to it.
talk soon (or later) Amanda

PS These are some of the beautiful photos of the bride and groom and bridesmaid and flowergirl.

comes in threes

Its been a little while since i last posted, but lots has happened. THE Wedding is getting closer, 9 more days before we fly down to Brisbane. Like my tittle of this post? Well let me tell you about it, first my newish front loader washing machine(just out of warranty) breaks, the guy comes to fix it, (3 hours late) charges $68 to tell me he can't fix it i need to buy a new one, i was upset, but if i knew what was next i might not have been. I had just spent a quick morning in town Op shopping got a great little load, some lovely Alfred Meakin china, amongst a lot of other goodies, feeling very pleased with myself, i was driving home thinking i would love a cup of tea, i think i will sit out on the veranda and have it when i get home, when i look in my side mirror and to my horror i see the gigantic truck with huge trailer, is coming into my lane on top of me, and to make matters worse we were on the middle of a huge bridge over a very wide and deep crocodile infested river. Well of course he hit me, i spun around in my lovely little 3 yo black car several times, all i could think of was 'this is it, i am going into the river, this is the end'. I ended up against the rails, which thank the Lord, did not give way, i was travelling at 80 km/hr so i hit it with a lot of force. Without all the gory details i was eventually cleared by my colleagues at work, given some great pain relief, and allowed to go home, very bruised and battered but SO SO SO greatful to be alive, alas my poor car is a complete write off, and all my lovely china is smashed to pieces, a small price to pay i think. I am sitting here typing with a very sore cut grazed and bruised right arm, neck and chest from seat belt and air bags, thinking thank God i didn't have Madi in the car with me, as i so often do. SO i am waiting for no. 3 to happen........ Please everyone drive carefully and LOOK carefully in your mirrors before changing lanes, Truck Drivers take note. Amandaxx

Good News

I have just had the best news, my friend Elise has had her surgery and everything went well. So far everything is looking good, no side effects from the surgery, and she will only need to have 6 months off from work, it sound like a long time but for a while there it was looking like she would never work again, and she is such a good nurse. Thankyou to everyone for all your prayers and good wishes. Amanda

My Friend

I just got some really bad news, my lovely beautiful friend Elise, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, she sees the neuro surgeon tomorrow, are all hoping and praying that it will be removed and no side effects, which is a very high possibility. It makes the diagnosis worse when you are a nurse (we both are), as you know exactly what can go wrong, and all the side effects from a brain tumor, and the surgery is very delicate and risky. She has a little boy who is 8 and an adoring husband, so please if you are of the praying kind please say a prayer for my friend Elise, she is such a beautiful person, inside and out... thankyou Amanda

some projects

Well i really enjoyed Marie's Heirloom Party, such gorgeous heirlooms everyone has, but the best part about them is the memories, every time i walk past my gram's old singer treadle i think of her and all the treasures she used to make me on it.
i have included some pics of projects i have just completed in my minimal spare time, (i was on holidays from Uni, but back now), the lamp i painted a nice red/pink, i'm not quite happy with the shade, i think it needs some fabric the same colour as the base, maybe a bow around the little bitty thing at the top. There are before and after photos, i got the lamp shade at the op shop (goodwill)for $2.00, just love the shape. The little plate thingos i have been making for quite a while, from op shop plates and glasses, just glued on, and some beading glued on to the plate, and there you have it. Not much happening on this side of the world, but i would just like to say i have met the most lovely people through blogging, i wish i started earlier.
talk soon, Amanda

Hi this is my Heirloom, its my grandmothers singer treadle sewing machine, its my pride and joy, you can see her thimble and her tape measure resting on the machine. i like to hold the tape measure and know that she had used it to make many wonderful craft creations, she was a craft Queen before her time. Whizz on over to Emma Calls me Mama, for the Heirloom Party of the Year!

First Blog

Hi , my name is Amanda and this is my first blog entry. I have been blog reading for quite some time, and finally plucked up the courage to start my own, with lots of encouragement from my very good friend Kris at Ruby St. Designs, (check it out OMG she has amazingly beautiful stuff). A bit about me i suppose would be good, i have 3 adult children and 1 beautiful grandaughter who is 2 1/2. No. 1 daughter is getting married to No. 1 son-in-law in Sept school hols (she is a school teacher), having her sister (No. 2 daughter) as bridesmaid and Miss Moo as her flower girl. No.1 son has a lovely partner who is also a teacher, Miss E. and they have recently bought their first house. I am very happily single and live with my little yorkie Lily, she is sooo sweet, i love her to bits, i rescued her from the animal shelter about 2 years ago.
I am a nurse, and am studying for my Degree at Uni as well as working 4 days a week, i look after miss moo 1 day a week as well. I will finish my Degree next June, so my time at the moment is very limited, so post may be few and far between. I am on Hols at the moment, and having a ball. Have been Op shopping (good will if you are in the states) this week and found some great bargins. will post some before and afters tomorrow, see ya xx A.

First Post

this is my very first post, i have no idea what to talk about, my life is quite boring. The weather, oh yeah thats always a good start to a conversation, well i live in Cairns, Aust. and the weather is absolutely glorious at the moment, so glad its not summer.
i have just added a shelfari book thingy, with books i love and i have just realised most of them are about the south, in the US, which i hope to someday visit, i just love anything to do with the south.
I read a lot of blogs from the south as well and they have some great tips on renovating or doing up old/antique furniture, which they seem to have some magnificent pieces, at such ridiculously cheap prices, so i went to my local Op shop, or Goodwill if you come from the states, and found me a cheap, (for Aus) chest of drawers for $25.00. i had started to strip the paint off before i remembered to take before and after photos, so here is a bit of before, but you should get the idea of how ugly it was. i havent finished it yet will post after shots when i have. Well not bad for nothing to say, till next post, see ya. mandy
